January 8 to 14, 2020 Days 253 to 259
Last week I wrote I had a scratch in my throat and my resting HR was on the rise. This week it turned into a terrible head and chest cold. It is on weeks like this that I am happy and sad that I maintain a streak. The old me would have taken last week off and most likely the next 2 or 10 after that. Read my recent blog on how to keep a streak alive: https://tangentx.ca/2020/01/07/5-tools-to-keep-an-exercise-streak-alive/

Wednesday was the only run or bike workout I was compliant. After that I rode the bike for just over 30 mins for 3 days. On Sunday, I was going to try to get an hour on the bike and bailed at 47 minutes. I played hockey Sunday night and most of the team was in the same condition. The cold air and hard skate cleared me out and I felt great until I got home and the chest filled up. The next 2 days I ran outside to get the same clearing feeling but it was slippery and I was not feeling it. Monday I got a massage and my right hamstring and both calves were tight. My massage therapist mentioned the muscles felt dehydrated. I went for a swim, a compliant workout, on the 14th and my goggles broke so did 1400 m without them.
Summary of the week:
- Swim – 1.4 km – 0:31:29 hour
- Bike – 69.92 km – 2:18:37 hours
- Run – 21.19 km – 2:02:54 hours
- Weekly total – 93.51 km – 4:53:00 hours
- Grand total – 4046.19 km – 240:57:13
This weeks theme was broken. Over the holidays I read The Gone World, a novel by Tom Sweterlitsch, the main character had a mantra that I used this week “others would quit”. The good news is I got through week 38 and feel like I am almost back to 100% for week 39. Onto next week with positive vibes!
