January 15 to 21, 2020 Days 260 to 266
This week made me reflect on how far my mental state has come during this streak. On Saturday night and Sunday we had a blizzard and the snow was deep and the wind was brutal. Instead of dreading my run, I embraced the 10 km run and it was amazing how much fun I had. I am grateful for how strong I am getting and blessed I am able to get outside and run.
This past week was dedicated as recovery week in my Ironman plan, this was most welcomed after how sick I had been feeling. I still had a upper chest cough after exercise or if I pushed too hard so recovery week fit perfectly.

I was compliant on all my workouts on my plan with the exception to running. I modify on recovery week to keep my streak going by reducing one run and filling in recovery days with the difference. I played hockey twice this week and the cold air seemed to help get the chest congestion out. I think I am now on the tail end of this illness as my chest seems better resting HR is starting to return to normal levels after 2 weeks of a minor spike. January 20th I had a sub threshold bike ride and felt strong and I did not get into a coughing fit when I pushed into sub threshold.
Summary of the week:
- Swim – 1.9 km – 0:48:01 hour
- Bike – 158.47 km – 4:55:28 hours
- Run – 29.64 km – 2:53:51 hours
- Weekly total – 190.01 km – 8:37:20 hours
- Streak total – 4236.20 km – 249:34:33
Last week I talked about how I recently read The Gone World, a novel by Tom Sweterlitsch, the main character had a mantra: “others would quit”. This past week I was again using the quote while out enjoying the snowstorm run. I reflected on how this run while not fast is for sure a foundation builder.
Currently, I am reading the book Finding My Voice by Mike Reilly and this quote really stuck with me: “Of all the truly momentous, life-changing things it’s possible for you to achieve, IRONMAN is one of the rare ones that, barring an accident or bad weather, is virtually 100% within your control.” Onto week 17 of my 48 week IRONMAN plan armed with focus and positive vibes.
