January 22 to 28, 2020 Days 267 to 273

Building block week! This week was all about getting back into the groove of training after illness and recovery week. This meant I had to stick to the plan and get the workouts in. The comparison photos are August 24th to now.

I learned on my long bike session my 100 km pace is exactly as long as the movie The Irishman. I finished my ride right when the credits started to roll!

I was compliant on all my workouts other than Thursday when I was invited to play hockey unexpected so I cut my planned run in half. The roads have been very slippery around here the past week making running faster near impossible for tempo and threshold runs I would overdress so my heart rate would climb to the zones I had to be in. I played hockey twice this week Thursday and Sunday as well.

I have noticed some new found fitness on the bike. I have an extra gear sometimes two and can keep my cadence the past couple of rides on the trainer. On Monday the 27th the plan had me doing a 14 km run which I was dreading as I was a little sore from the big weekend of work but I got out the door and after the 2 km warm-up I felt great!

Summary of the week:

  • Swim – 1.9 km – 0:48:17 hour
  • Bike – 195.98 km – 6:22:23 hours
  • Run – 51.95 km – 5:06:05 hours
  • Weekly total – 249.83 km – 12:16:45 hours
  • Streak total – 4486.03 km – 261:51:18

This weeks quote comes from Tanya Swanson, she posts to social media a positive post everyday and I love it! This week she shared photos from when she had gamma knife radiation surgery for a brain tumor 10 years ago (to date her tumor has not changed in size!) the summary of her post is her mantra to live by: “Be Kind. Make Today Count. Make Good Choices.” She credits Robb Nash for “make today count” and Ellen DeGeneres for “be kind”

Onto week 18 of my 48 week IRONMAN plan armed with knowledge that I can dig in and get the work done that this plan has.
